Gun Freedom
Since the founding of our country the debate on how gun control should be handled has been in question, starting with the formation of the Second Amendment. There have been countless debates as to the amount of restrictions on these guns, or if civilians should even be allowed the option to own these firearms. Gun freedom stems from the interpretation of the second amendment in that Americans have the right to bear arms in order to protect themselves from threats both foreign and domestic.
More radical side of gun freedom:
- Believe that it is their second amendment right and it is unconstitutional to take that right away.
- Firearms are a necessity for self-defense and the defense of ones family and property.
- If law abiding citizens do not have the ability to own firearms, then how will they protect themselves against criminals that are still able to obtain these firearms?
- If there are less guns then there is a greater chance for crime because criminals are not afraid of the possibility of their victim having a gun to protect them.
- Without guns, how would the people of America be able to defend themselves against domestic threats, such as if the government turned to tyranny?
Moderate Approach to gun freedom:
- There should be more in-depth background checks because the ones that are currently in place are not doing their intended job.
- There should be limits on who should be able to own guns, but they should not be taken away from everyone due to the small percentage of people that use them for criminal acts.
- There is still a need for citizens to be able to own a gun, if they meet the correct criteria, so that they are either to use it for self defense or for another use such as hunting.
- While hunting is not one of the more heavily discussed concerns when talking about gun control, it still needs to be taken in to account.
- If guns are banned or very tightly restricted, it will make it harder for the people who rely on hunting as their means of getting food which would either force them to try to find another way or resort to crime in order to get the food that they need.
